What to expect from a music therapy session?

There is no 'standard' music therapy session as your music therapist will tailor sessions to suit your interests and strengths.

A music therapy session could involve:

-Exploring various musical instruments with the support of your music therapist

-Singing & playing along to familiar songs

-Creating music through supported improvisational & adapted play

-Moving and dancing

-Creative projects like song writing & composition

Our role as music therapists is to provide support so that individuals are able to participate musically within sessions in ways that are meaningful, enjoyable & fulfilling.

Musical experience is NOT REQUIRED to participate in music therapy!

What does 'neurodiversity affirming' mean?

Neuro = brain/nervous system
Diversity = many different things existing in a group

As we are all neurodiverse individuals, with each person differing from the next person. Those who ‘diverge’ from what is considered ‘typical’ are often referred to as neurodivergent. All brains are good brains. All brains have individual and varying support needs.

We believe that people with disability, mental health conditions or neurodevelopmental conditions like autism & ADHD do not require ‘fixing’. We believe that it is the environment that needs ‘fixing’ for disabled and neurodivergent individuals to flourish.

It is our role as neurodiversity affirming therapists to identify support needs and accommodate and adapt our practise to ensure that our clients feel safe and supported. We prioritise client's passions and interests while incorporating elements of music throughout our sessions to enhance engagement and positive social connection.
